- Long-standing partnerships as success factor: Schaeffler, DTM, BMW M Motorsport and Schubert Motorsport are once again lining up together on the grid for the new DTM season
- Podium in his sights: Marco Wittmann at the wheel of the "Green Machine"
- New design in green/white: Schaeffler Innovation Taxi brings Schaeffler technologies to life in an Audi R8 LMS GT2
On April 24, 2026, the new 2026 DTM season will get underway in Spielberg in the first of eight race weekends. The Motion Technology Company is once again turning to tried-and-trusted partners and close collaboration as part of its involvement in the race series: Schaeffler brand ambassador Marco Wittmann in the BMW M4 GT3 Evo "Green Machine" from Schubert Motorsport.
“On behalf of Schaeffler, we’re delighted to once again be involved together this season in the DTM with Marco Wittmann and our partners from BMW M Motorsport and Schubert Motorsport. Following a fifth place in the overall rankings last year with four podium places, we aim to build further on this success this season,” says Matthias Zink, CEO Powertrain & Chassis at Schaeffler. “With powerful Schaeffler technologies in the ‘Green Machine’ and our motorsport expertise, we will make a decisive contribution to the vehicle's performance in the coming season.”
Marco Wittmann’s BMW M4 GT3 Evo features a clutch actuator, a valve train with variable camshaft phasing unit, a high-pressure pump drive for the injection system, a throttle valve, and a tensioner pulley in the belt drive. The "Green Machine" has a displacement of 2993 cc and an output of up to 590 hp, with an inline six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower turbo technology providing the power.
Motorsport: Test track for innovative technologies
For decades, Schaeffler has been a firm fixture in international motorsport and is actively involved in the DTM. Here, it involves more than victories and podium places: “For Schaeffler, motorsport is the perfect test track for new technologies – if a technology delivers on the racetrack with precision performance, it will also do the same with everyday driving on the road,” says Matthias Zink. Schaeffler uses and tests its innovative solutions under extreme conditions on the racetrack, allowing it to garner key insights that the company transfers directly into the volume-production development of components and systems in its volume-production products.
Partnerships – the joint road to success
With Schaeffler brand ambassador Marco Wittmann and BMW M Motorsport, the Motion Technology Company is now entering its eighth joint season. The two-time DTM champion and born-and-bred Franconian exudes confidence about the upcoming series: “We had a good season in 2025 and a finale packed with emotions and duels. Now we’re entering the new DTM season with the same crew. That makes me hugely confident that we’ll be battling it out at the front of the pack. My goal is to bring home my third DTM title in 2026 together with Schaeffler, BMW Motorsport, and Team Schubert.”
Schaeffler has also nurtured a long-standing cooperation with ABT Sportsline, dating back to 2014 in motorsport and involvement in the DTM since 2021. For 2026, ABT Sportsline will for the first time be lining up with a Lamborghini Temerario GT3, supported by Schaeffler.
Schaeffler brings innovations to the racetrack
Schaeffler will also be an official innovation partner in the 2026 DTM. Together with ADAC (German automobile club), the aim is to further develop the race series. One particular eye-catching feature away from the actual races is the Schaeffler Innovation Taxi, which is now clearly identifiable in its green/white livery. The Audi R8 LMS GT2 acts in collaboration with ABT Sportsline as a technical show car and brings motorsport and Schaeffler technologies to life for employees and guests as fellow passengers. The professional driver Markus Winkelhock will once again be sitting behind the wheel of the racetrack taxi. The former Formula 1 and DTM driver incorporates his extensive experience into the vehicle’s ongoing further development. Among other things, Schaeffler incorporates its innovative steering system in the form of the rear wheel steering system.
